Margaret Lange OAM Scholarship Application
Margaret Lange is the founder of the South Australian branch of KMEIA. She is highly respected and fondly renown for her keen intellect, love of music - especially singing and choral music, and her passion for music education for all. She has devoted her life to developing the best teacher training possible for music teachers, pre-service teachers and choral directors though founding and supporting the Kodály SA Branch.
Margaret Lange continues to be a dynamic role model for music educators in the energetic and gracious way she shares her experience with those aspiring to be community minded, exemplary practitioners of the Kodály singing based approach to music education. Margaret Lange has held every position on the KMEIA SA committee in her long and continuing service to the KMEIA SA branch.
About the award
This scholarship honours Margaret Lange’s outstanding contribution to music education in South Australia. KMEIA SA hopes to make this award annually to an applicant who shares and demonstrates Margaret Lange’s vision in their teaching. The successful applicant is one who is eager to continue developing their music teaching competence and musicianship skills through the Australian Kodály Certificate and advanced professional learning such as a Masters Degree at renown Kodály institutions such as the Cuskelly College of Music, Holy Names University or the Liszt Academy.
KMEIA SA reserves the right to not present the award if there are is no suitable candidate or if there are insufficient funds. It is desirable that the recipient is present at the award ceremony.
Conditions of the scholarship:
- The applicant must be a member of Kodály SA. To join click on the following link https://kodaly.org.au/membership/
- Two scholarships will be awarded, both to the value of $500. $400 will be awarded initially (off the price of the course) and $100 will be refunded once the course is completed.
- If SA are not providing the level required by the applicant, then the scholarship will go towards funding the applicant to go to an interstate course to fulfil their training.
- Upon completion of the AKC, or one year of study, the scholarship holder is required to write a 500 word report for the SA branch newsletter/website describing their experiences and outlining the skills and knowledge they have learnt. They could be asked also present a 15 minute session at a Kodály SA workshop, and this may be in discussion/Q&A form or a practical presentation.
- The scholarship winner must be a positive advocate for Kodály principles and promote and support the work of the KMEIA SA branch.
- applicant must be a South Australian or Northern Territory resident.

5. Your reasons for applying for this scholarship.
6. What experience or involvement have you had with Kodály pedagogy or the Kodály SA branch? If limited, what experience you have had with other Musical societies or groups in South Australia?
7. Describe your musical competency, musicianship and experience with solfége, conducting, sight reading, arranging, singing and instrumental playing.
8. Please supply further information that may support your application.
